Shard of Glass - London Bridge Tower

Cliff L'Aimable a guest from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors gives an overview filmed in 3 parts by independent producer Green Screen studios at Mentorsupport.net. Part 2 is shown here. Filmed originally in English and French he overviews this landmark structure currently being built in London by Architect Renzo Piano & Sellar Property Group . Cliff is the Technical & Engineering Teams Leader (Building Control- statutory authority UK) on this significant landmark project. How to design a bridge house

Welcome to design a dwelling - volume 2. Im Doug Patt. This is the series where we pick a site and put a house on it. Other than a medieval anomaly or a draw bridge with a small structure for operation its not very likely youll see a house built on a bridge any time soon. With that in mind this bridge site at the Grand Canyon is perfect for a house. Any building placed on this structure would be able to take advantage of the thrilling view and if designed properly the vista would be completely unobstructed. So, I did some thinking about the building and I like the analogy of creating a home that is something like a cork to a wine bottle. In simple terms just as a cork is round and fits the round neck of a bottle, the house would be rectangular, fitting the rectangular cut out shape of the structure. As noted in previous episodes, Im always more inclined to go modern and this site lends itself to that aesthetic. To get an idea of how big this house is going to be we can gauge the scale of the photo from the people on the bridge. The first design I completed followed my original sketch fairly closely. The configuration stayed pretty true the idea of a rectangular shape with simple cut outs and geometrical forms for openings and windows. However, the design fails to take any real advantage the most important factor of the site has to offer, the view. Chelsea Street Bridge Tower Lift

On April 20th and 21st, 2010 JF White Contracting and Saugus Construction Company completed two HUGE lifts building the primary leg support structures of the north tower of the Chelsea Street Bridge in Chelsea, MA. Each pre-assembled column section weighed 424000 pounds (212 tons) and was 120 feet in height. The height at the top of the completed structure is 220 feet. Lifting duties were accomplished using Hallmore's Demag CC2800 600-ton lattice crane with a Superlift configuration accompanied by their Demag 600-ton mobile crane for column tripping. Steel erection performed by Saugus Construction with their crew assisted by Local 7 Ironworkers out of Boston, MA. Oregon 38 Elk Creek Rapid Bridge Replacement

Time lapse encapsulation. - Slayden Construction, in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Transportation, completed another successful rapid replacement on the OR 38: Elk Creek to Hardscrabble Creek Design-Build Project on September 7, 2008. After months of careful preparation, the process of removing the old bridge, moving the 1220 ton new structure, and re-connecting the highway was performed in only 49 hours (8 hours ahead of schedule). Slayden's excellent safety program insured that everyone working on and visiting the site remained safe on a very congested site.
