Shukhov's High-tech architecture in Moscow - 1922

Art historian Andrew Graham-Dixon travels through time to unlock the world of Russian art. But best of all is a ride up the Shukhov tower, an amazing construction built by the engineer Vladimir Shukhov between 1919 and 1922. If it's not quite as ignored as AGD suggests (its restoration is after all the focus of a major UNESCO campaign) it is still an astonishing construction that is wonderfully well filmed here. www.illuminationsmedia.co.uk «Lord Foster fires up campaign to save rusting Russian radio tower» - guardian.co.uk www.guardian.co.uk www.shukhov.org Architect brands structure as a work of 'dazzling genius' and inspiration that must be saved. From a distance it looks a bit like an upturned wastepaper basket, soaring over the concrete skyline of southern Moscow. The Russian capital's unique Soviet-era radio station was built in 1922 to spread the message of revolutionary communism around the world, but it is badly neglected and suffering from corrosion. Now British architect Lord Foster has backed a campaign to save the 150-metre-high steel tower designed by the engineering genius Vladimir Shukhov. In an open letter, Lord Foster describes the tower as "a structure of dazzling brilliance and great historical importance". Calling the structure Shukhov's masterpiece, Foster says it is the "first major landmark of the Soviet period". Made up of a delicate lattice structure, the tower has five interlocking "hyperboloids", each smaller in size, giving the impression of ...

India - Mumbai Bandra Worli Sea Link Architecture (BWSL)

The Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL) (Marathi: वांद्रे वरळी सागरी सेतू), officially the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, (Marathi: राजीव गांधी सागरी सेतू), is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete viaduct approaches, which links Bandra and the western suburbs of Mumbai with Worli and central Mumbai, and is the first phase of the proposed West Island Freeway system. The Rs. 1600 crore ($ 400 million approx.) project of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) was executed by Hindustan Construction Company, with design and project management by DAR Consultants. The bridge was dedicated to the public on 30 June 2009 by Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, although only 4 of 8 lanes are in service. The Sea Link reduces travel time between Bandra and Worli from 4560 minutes to 7 minutes. The link has an average daily traffic of around 37500 vehicles per day, about half the pre-opening estimate of 70000 The Bandra Worli Sea link project is a part of the Western Freeway Sea Project, which, in turn, is a part of a larger proposal to upgrade the road transportation network of greater Mumbai. It is primarily meant to provide an alternative to the Mahim Causeway route that is presently the only connection between South Mumbai and the Western and Central suburbs. The project starts from the intersection of Western Express Highway and SV Road at the Bandra end, and connects it to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road (Worli ...

The Sims 3 - Building a House 13 - Carnelian Chalcedony - Part 1 - Architecture

The link to download this house is over here: www.thesims3.com Alright, so the house is finished, the end product slightly differs this version. The idea came from a tiny picture in the recent New Homes liftout from my local paper. It was a picture of the front of the house, the rest I made up. Now, the biggest issue that came up a once or twice was the fact that I used foundations for the structure instead of walls. That was FAIL on my part because if you notice on the ground floor the shadow of the tree from outside can still be seen even though the they are walls and stuff up. Major fail, I though it would be cool to use foundations because I was thinking of raising the terrain's "ground level", which I forgot to do. You'll see the effects of this problem later on. Uncool! I really like the backyard, has a Japanese feel to it, its a pity the 'mountains are so pointy looking though. Again, the "constrainfloorelevation" cheat was used for the bridge and udjusting the foundations' height. Each installment of my 'Colour Series' will have a new feature that I will use for the next installment, so Green will have an amalgamation of all the previous houses, effectively making it a super house! Blue has the colour theme. Orange has the pond. Black and White has the lowered living room. Red has the indoor garden... and to an extent the garage. I've done the majority of the Visible Spectrum and I've decided to make one more, sorry to those who would have like to see Violet ...

UNITED BIKINI HOUSE BERLIN (ARCHITECTURE PROJECT)

I will talk about a new monument in Berlin celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of Berlin wall. This monument is a new conceptual approach rethinking the actual vision of the world. The idea of these two young students is to represent a concept of equality between all countries around the world in a building scale. This rehabilitation expresses a rethinking of the world, where each country is represented by a standard commercial container, they are all the same dimensions and that it means identical rights. Each container, belongs to one country and will represents a piece of its territory. Each will show a free expression of what it wants in Berlin. This project is located in an elongated building in Budapester Straße witch was erected between 1956 and 1957. The third storey of the Bikini House was originally omitted, so that the upper and lower floors were linked merely by a series of columns. This prompted Berliners to give it its colloquial name. In 1978, the missing storey was added to create space for the arts gallery. Nowadays, this concrete construction is an unoccupied space, which create a physical border between the Breitscheidplatz and the zoologischer garten. Today the original idea of the omitted floor will be used in all the building, undressing it completely and just leaving the columns and the beams of the primary structure. This change will create a permeability where the city goes through the Bikini House and the nature of the zoo appears and ...
