Built 1914 for West Point Manufacturing Company, a cotton manufacturing corporation that was founded locally. Fairfax Mill was the 5th mill the company built and operated. West Point Manufacturing became West Point-Pepperell in the 1960's & WestPoint Stevens in the 1990's. Operations ceased in 2006. Demolition began in Winter of 2011. The building was constructed with high quality materials, local heart pine wood and bricks made from local red clay and fired on site. The windows were bricked up & the brick air conditioner towers were added in the early 1970's, ruining the original look of the structure. An entire mill village, called Fairfax, Alabama, was built around the mill, which included a union church, kindergarten, grade school and theater/masonic lodge, all built by "the company." In 1980 Fairfax combined with 3 other local mill villages to incorporate as the City of Valley.
